"Cats are cool, and I love coffee.... but together?" YES, what could be better?
If you're new to our website and still trying to figure out who we are, you've come to the right place.
First and foremost, we are cat lovers. I personally discovered the cafe when my landlord had a strict rule against cats in my apartment. Having grown up always having cats in my household, this cat-free environment just felt wrong to me. So I hopped on my computer and found out how to get my fill of cats without breaking the rules of my living space.
This is when I found The Shabby Tabby Cat Cafe in Sayville! I immediately purchased tickets to visit and fell in love with the place as soon as I walked in.
It was during my first visit that I discovered the mission of the cafe: make room in shelters so more cats can be rescued. The Shabby Tabby creates a relaxing environment for humans and cats alike, with the hopes that they find their forever home -- and in the meantime, the cats can learn to be comfortable around other cats, people they don't know, and kids! All of these components increase their likelihood of finding a home.
As soon as I walked into the cafe, I was greeted by many friendly cats as they are all free to roam around their environment. All of the cats had profiles on the wall so I could get to know each of their names, ages, and a little background. The employees knew detailed information about each and every cat, and were happy to tell me everything they knew. I was offered unlimited hot beverages for my entire stay, and I couldn't have wanted to spend an hour of my day doing anything else.
From then on I became a loyal customer, visiting at least once a week just so I could have a connection with cats once again.
Fast forward a few years, my landlord agreed to allowing a cat in my apartment (it only took a few unwanted mice to change her mind!) That very same day, I found myself at The Shabby Tabby Cat Cafe finally in search of a cat that I could call my own.
I had only taken one step into the cat room when I found my girl. She greeted me and my boyfriend immediately, as if to say "I have been waiting for you two to find me!" They do say you don't choose the cat, the cat chooses you which stood true in our situation. Next thing I know, I am filling out an application for my soon-to-be fur-ever friend.
Little did I know, I would end up taking home not one, but two cats! (The importance of bonded pairs is another story for a different blog post!) These two cats have seriously changed my life in the best way possible, and I have The Shabby Tabby Cat Cafe to thank for that. Heck, I love the place so much that I applied for a job!
Which leads us to where we are now... we have a brand new, beautiful location with 33 cats and 650 total adoptions as of today.
So whether you are like me and can't have your own cat but want to be around them, or just looking for a fun way to spend your day with some friends, The Shabby Tabby welcomes you.
